About this place
Muizenberg's long, gentle waves are the reason most Capetonians learnt to stand up here. Small-group lessons run at first light, when the water is glassy and the beach is empty.
Lessons are ninety minutes, never more than six to an instructor, and you keep the board and wetsuit for the rest of the day if you want another go. Beginners stand up on their first morning more often than not. Hot showers and coffee are waiting at the surf shop afterwards.

How the day runs
- 06:30Meet at Surfer's CornerWetsuits and boards are waiting by the beach huts.
- 06:45Warm up on the sandPaddling, popping up and reading the waves before you get wet.
- 07:00In the waterAn hour in the white water with your instructor, six to a group at most.
- 08:15Shower and coffeeHot showers at the surf shop, then coffee on the deck. Keep the board till sunset.
